10 African countries to participate in bikers’ show for Calabar Carnival


10 African countries have indicated their interest in participating in the 2016 Calabar Carnival.

This was disclosed by Akin Ricketts, the President, Metallic Knights Motorcycle Club in Calabar, on Monday journalists.

Ricketts said bikers from South Africa, Ghana, Togo, Egypt, Senegal and others had indicated interest in participating in the 2016 carnival to give a boost to the festival.

Ricketts, a former Commissioner for Information in Cross River, said that the 2016 bikers’ show would be a display of riding talent across the carnival routes.

“Last year carnival was not a flop. We came out in our well-kitted attires to give the carnival a boost using our power bikes.

“This year, we are bringing in bikers from no fewer than 10 African countries. I can assure you that the 2016 bikers show is going to be bigger and better.

“On the 27 of December which is the grand finale of the bikers’ show, we have gotten people from all strata of the society that would be participating on that day.

“We have a couple of female bikers in our club; they have undergone special training for the show.

“I can assure you that Dec. 27 is going to be filled with fun and excitement.

“Yesterday, we had the bikers’ dry run where over 250 power bikes participated in the show, the exercise was a success,’’ he said.

250 power bikes from Uyo, Imo, Enugu and Anambra states participated in the bikers’ dry run on Sunday, Dec. 4.
