Nigerian Police begin search for kidnapped schoolgirls


Police- FataiThe police in Lagos have mounted a spirited search for the three schoolgirls seized by gunmen from Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School in Ikorodu, Lagos State on Monday night.

The gunmen, suspected to be pipeline vandals, invaded the school around 8.30p.m by breaking through a fence and kidnapped the schoolgirls.

They fired several shots into the air as they entered the school.

No word has been heard from the kidnappers.

The development threw the entire state into panic as police conducted a search of surrounding bushes and creeks on foot and with a helicopter attached to the Rapid Response Squad.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone 2, B. Hassan, also visited the school on Tuesday.

The school premises was also busy on Tuesday as parents sought about the welfare of their children.

The incident came 46 days ahead of the second anniversary of the kidnap of 219 schoolgirls from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State by Boko Haram insurgents.

Till date, the Chibok girls have not been found. Only a few of them managed to escape as they were being herded away from their school in trucks.
