Brunei bans Christmas celebrations


bSouth East Asian country,Brunei, bans christmas celebration and has also put in place a punishment if the law is broken.

The celebration of Christmas and all associated acts like wearing Santa hats, putting up Christmas trees in public, lighting candles, singing religious songs, sending Christmas greetings, among other activities.

However, anyone seen celebrating or organizing Christmas celebrations will face up to 5 years in jail.

According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, “These enforcement measures are intended to control the act of celebrating Christmas excessively and openly, which could damage the aqidah (beliefs) of the Muslim community.”

Brunei is predominantly-Islamic country.
