Court orders past government to account for stolen funds

Past PresidentsA Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered former Nigerian presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo, Late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s government to account for stolen funds.

A Freedom of Information suit was filed by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) today, March 1,2016 and the presiding judge,Justice M.B. Idris, ordered that the current Nigerian President, Buhari, should ensure that his government, and the government of the past presidents must account fully for all recovered loot.

Idris also ordered that the information on the total amount of recovered stolen public assets by each government, the amount of recovered stolen public assets spent by each government as well as the objects of such spending including the projects on which such funds were spent should be made public.
