On Sunday, July 24th, 2016, fire broke out at the Sokoto Old Market destroying goods and properties worth several millions of Naira.
The market was reduced to ruins. The former governor of the state, Attahiru Bafarawa, on Wednesday donated N30 million to traders whose goods were destroyed in the fire.
The money was shared by an aide of the former governor, Ibrahim Milgoma, who represented the government.
The Sokoto market fire is the most recent in a slew of fire outbreaks that have been reported in the North.
Recall that a fire outbreak at the popular Sabon-Gari market in Kano state resulted in heavy losses for the traders.
