Kleptomania: Man begs court to dissolve his marriage

A forty-two-year-old businessman, Livinus Uwa, has filed a divorce petition against his wife, Chinenye, yesterday at an Igando Customary Court in Lagos Guardian reports. According to the businessman, he is tired of the marriage because his wife can’t stop stealing.

“I married a thief,” Mr Uwa lamented before urging the court to dissolve his four-year-old marriage because of Chinenye’s kleptomania.

“On several occasions, my wife stole my money from my wardrobe, rendering me broke. The last time she burgled my room, she stole N350, 000.

I reported the theft at the police station and she confessed to the theft, but the money was not recovered.

“I have reported all her attitudes and stealing habits to both our families, they called her but she refused to change,’’ he said.

Mr Uwa went on to accuse his wife of abandonment, adding that since they married, Chinenye had been appearing and disappearing.

“When she was pregnant, she left the house to an unknown place and came back after she was delivered of the baby.

“She abandoned our baby when she was 10 months old; I had to engage a baby-sitter to take care of her.

“When the baby was two years, I enrolled her in school and my wife reappeared,’’ he concluded.

President of the customary court, Mr. Adegboyega Omilola, in his judgement, dissolved the marriage.

He said throughout the duration of the case, the respondent didn’t turn up in court and the court had no other choice than to dissolve the marriage.
