Miss South Africa, Rolene Strauss, wins 2014 Miss World



Rolene Strauss of South Africa was crowned Miss World 2014 on Sunday, at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre in London, succeeding Megan Young for the title. The 22-year-old beauty won hearts with her background as a medical student in her native country.

Edina Kulcsar of Hungary was the first runner-up, while the United States’ Elizabeth Safrit grabbed the second runner-up title.

India’s Koyal Rana made it to the top 10 of Miss World 2014 before getting eliminated. She made the country proud by winning the coveted title ‘Beauty With A Purpose’.

Koyal also won the sub-title of Best Designer of the World where she was seen standing gorgeously tall in a Falguni & Shane Peacock gown.

Through her journey at Miss World Organization, she was seen competing for various sub-titles like Miss Talent round, Beauty with a Purpose, Multimedia, People’s Choice, Resort Wear, Sports Challenge and many more.


Koyal also bagged a spot in the top 5 in Beach Fashion and Multimedia Award.

Koyal was sashed as the Continental Queen of Asia – which means she bagged the highest placement from the Asian continent. (She is the second continental Queen of Asia from India after 2008).

Koyal was also in Top 20 for the Top Model event. She also performed at the Dances of the World segment on Aishwarya Rai’s song and on the same platform Aishwarya Rai was felicitated as the most celebrated miss world who had continued her Beauty with a Purpose project for 20 years since she was crowned in the year 1994.

On the 64th edition of Miss World, the Miss World organization honoured Miss World 1994 Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The 41-year-old Bollywood actress attended the grand finale along with husband Abhishek Bachchan, daughter Aaradhya and mother Vrinda Rai. “I stand here overwhelmed by this honor. I thank the Miss World organization for such an incredible honor that I’ve received…to have had the opportunity to hold the title, to wear the crown with pride, that was my one time to go out there and experience beauty with a purpose”, said Aishwarya Rai.

Grammy award-nominated and multi-platinum artist Sky Blu from LMFAO kick-started the evening with their mind boggling performance. One of the highlights of the evening came when the candidates surprised Beauty With a Purpose founder and Miss World chair Julia Morley with a tribute in the form of a song number.
