A famous Instagram model has been rendered blind and will suffer eye problems for the rest of her life after having surgery to change her eye color.
Nadinne Bruna, 32, wanted light grey eyes instead of hazel, but ended up losing 80 per cent of her vision in her right eye and 50 per cent in her left eye.
She lives in Miami but flew to Colombia for the surgery as it is not approved in the US. It cost around $3,000 to have silicone implants inserted into her eyes, a discounted price offered on the condition that she posted about it on social media.
After the surgery, Argentinian model Nadinne immediately began experiencing serious problems.
Nadinne claims her vision was constantly blurry as a result of the pressure placed on her optic nerve by the implant and her eyes were red and painful for months. She had to return to Colombia in March and June 2017 for two further procedures to attempt to repair the damage but was forced to seek medical attention at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami.
Ophthalmologist Dr Ranya Habash led a team of medics to remove the dangerous implants in September and Nadinne underwent emergency sight-saving surgery to treat glaucoma in November. As a result, the model has lost 80 per cent of vision in her right eye and 50 per cent in her left eye, and will have to deal with the consequences of the surgery for the rest of her life.
Nadinne and her twin sister Danna have made a career on Instagram, where they share images of the cosmetic procedures they have undergone. The twins regularly have their surgeries compensated and are often paid to feature medical practices on their accounts which have more than one million combined followers.
Nadinne lamented: “Before this surgery my eyes were completely healthy. I was so naïve. Ever since this surgery I have had blurry vision. For about a year my eyes were constantly red and itchy. My pupils, they can’t adjust to light anymore so I’m very photosensitive now too.
Im tired of read bullshit when no one knows the real story. Yes! I BLAME @dreugeniocabrera because he did medical negligence and im bad from the day 1! He saw me bad from the beginning bcz he decided to do on me 2 surgeries between 3 days causlng me chronic inflamation. This is what i answered to a follower. It was in spanish but i used a translator bcz is too long to write it again. This is only a resume and the drs at Bascom Palmer in Miami are witnesses of all this. Things were a lottttt worse than this. But i have to do a LIVE to explain everything with details. It was a real nighmare. I hope all of u can understand this translation. Anyways ill be giving so interviews to USA, Mexico & UK next week. ???????? @nelypez first you speak without knowing of cause. Porq we did not know the risks. Second, it was medical negligence and tomorrow I will make a posting about it. The media transgress the information to create more sensationalism and sell more without telling things in detail. Third, in the US there was another company equal to bright ocular that had a waiting list of more than 100 people where they said that the approval was on hold and could take from six months to a year. Dr Eugenio Cabrera was aberrant because he submitted me to a lasik 3 days before the implants, telling me if he could perform the two surgeries so often, when I did not even know what was myopia! I operated for an astigmatism of 0.5 and 3 days, dsp put the implants! That gave me a chronic inflammation of almost 4 degrees! Dsp of 3 weeks so and worsen he sent me to miami the same! For this he had his instagram closed because his license was not approved and he was scared! The inflammation worsened and a month later I started to have chronic photophobia and when I called it terrified because I did not have medical insurance in the US, he told me that he could not take them out. I had to wait 6 to 7 months to consider that option and it made me wait like that all the time! And when I go to Colombia in deplorable conditions, He decided to rearrange them because if I removed them I would need a transplant because I could not do it because I was not Colombian! And it got even worse!
“This surgery completely f***ed up my life.” She added: “My vision damage is permanent, and I still have to have a cornea transplant and I have cataracts too.”
Nadinne said the surgery affected her career as she was unable to participate in photo shoots for her Instagram page, because of the appearance of her eyes.
She said: “My sister became like my mom. She had to do everything for me.
“After this surgery I went into a deep depression. I’m a very strong person, usually very brave and very smart, but with this I was completely stupid. I trusted the wrong person. Now I have the vision of a 90-year-old lady right but I’m hoping I can just keep my glaucoma under control.”
She revealed that in spite of her eye problems, lots of people are still asking her where they can get the surgery done.
The model said: “It’s crazy, because even though I’ve been open about this surgery on Instagram, people are still are asking me where they can do it.
“But I don’t think surgeries are bad. I just didn’t know the risks and I made a mistake by not doing my research. Next month I’m going to have a surgery to reduce my boobs because I’ve lost a lot of weight this year and it’s something I have to do.”
