Donal Trump loses two New York votes as two of his kids neglect to register

DonaldRepublican presidential candidate Donald Trump remains the favourite going into next week’s primary in his home state of New York – but he will have to bank on less family support than expected.

Two of Trump’s children – Ivanka, 34, and Eric, 32 – did not register in time to vote in the April 19 Republican primary, the real estate tycoon told broadcaster Fox News on Monday.

“They feel very, very guilty,” Trump said. “They had a long time to register, but they were unaware of the rules and they didn’t register in time.”

Both Ivanka and Eric nevertheless continue to appear at campaign stops in support of their father.

Will his children face any consequences for their mistake? “Yes, no more allowance!” the billionaire said playfully. Trump has been married three times and has five children.

Current opinion polls show Trump far ahead of his opponents Ted Cruz and John Kasich going into the New York Republican contest.

In closed primaries such as New York’s, only voters registered to a specific party – Republican or Democrat – can take part in that party’s primary vote.

Trump’s kids are by no means the only New Yorkers not to register before the primaries. According to election officials, nearly 3 million New Yorkers – a quarter of the eligible voters – have not registered to vote.
