University of Uyo has announced the ban of the use of wristwatches by students in the examination hall.
In a statement dated, May 20, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) Prof. Enoidem Usoro of the University of Uyo signed document says that students are now prohibited from wearing wristwatches to examination halls; and the ban takes effect from the 1st semester 2018/2019 Examinations.

You will recall that the Management of the University had notified the University community of the ban on the use of GSM handset and ear phone in examination halls in a memo dated October, 2008. This ban is still in force.
The purpose of this memo is to notify the entire University Community of the ban on the use of wristwatches in Examination Halls, This takes effect from the first semester 2018/2019 examinations which are scheduled to commence next week May 27, 2019.
The Vice-Chancellor has directed that Deans and Heads of Departments should take note and ensure FULL compliance.
Although the reason for the ban was not stated it is suspected that it could be due to the use of smartwatches which could be used for examination malpractice as well.
